Split

The split step is crucial for positioning the body to efficiently move towards the incoming ball. At the top of the split, players should determine the direction of their first step, requiring precise timing. Younger players use slower split steps due to slower ball speeds, but as they age and the game speeds up, timing becomes even more critical. Training should include various split step positions at the baseline, transition areas, and the net to adapt to different play scenarios.
